About

We started delivering drug education schools in 1999.  This was after Robert van der Feyst, the now Executive Director, returned from successful rehabilitation at a Narconon Drug Rehabilitation centre in Denmark.  He had been struggling with addiction since the age of 16 and finally could say he was drug-free as he had sorted out the very things that caused him to want drugs.  Now drug-free and with over 15 years of experience with drugs, he wanted to explain to others WHY using drugs is not the way to go.  Many people throughout his life had told him not to take drugs, but now he understood WHYand this is exactly what was missing with most drug prevention efforts he had experienced.  Now adding something unique to prevention programs, word spread and Narconon Drug Education was in demand.  But, the majority of schools in the area are Xhosa speaking and as these were being targeted by dealers as an emerging market, this because a problem.

Almost as if planned, a  mother came to see Robert about getting her son rehabilitated.  Luckily, at that time a Narconon Rehabilitation Program had been opened in Johannesburg, enabling South Africans to do this program.  Sam was sent there and during his program also wanted to reach out to the youth in his community and help them avoid the same trap he wasted so many years in.  Upon graduation, he joined Robert as fellow Director and together spread this ever increasingly vital message of why it is in fact “cooler” to not take drugs and WHYthis is so.

Since then, many others have joined us in a permanent or volunteer capacity and enabled us to reach the rest of South Africa.  To date we have spoken to almost half a million students at hundreds of schools across the country and millions more via TV, Radio and other media.
